It has given me great pleasure to be given the opportunity to review this book. Access to quick, concise information about the discipline of Pathology can be a very daunting and frustrating exercise. If we all carried personal computers in our pockets, the contents of this book would make an ideal database for quick look ups. However, since most of us as yet do not have that luxury, this book is designed to provide a very efficient alternative. It is pleasing to see that the primary audience for this book are health-related professionals who require access to selected pathological information but have been more or less ignored by the publishing industry. It is a pleasant duty, the literary equivalent to breaking the bottle of champagne over the bow of a new vessel, and it provides me with a forum in which to express my belief that this book, written as it is in a frank, forthright and stimulating manner will prove a worthy addition to the understanding of Pathology across disciplines. Hannah PhD Foreword: Health Care Delivery has become too complicated and is so rapidly changing that even Physicians and Surgeons find it difficult to keep pace with the growing bulk of information. The challenges faced by other health care professionals like Allied health technologists, Respiratory and Physiotherapists, EMT¹s and Para-Medics seeking essential information about common and not so common diseases are enormous. In their day to day work it becomes vital for them to get a first hand information about diseases they have to deal with in rendering care to their patients. Obviously there is a need for a book which they can thumb through and in minutes understand not only the basic but the crucial aspects of the diseases diagnosed in their patients. The Pocket book of Pathology pretty much provides that valuable resource for these health-care personnel. System-wise identification of diseases makes it meaningful and the alphabetical indexing superbly facilitates access to information on specific diseases. Each entity has been properly and succinctly presented emphasizing the most relevant and important aspects. This handy pocket book offers a quick look, easy to understand reference to those who need it most. That appropriate precautions should be taken by those who handle patients with specific diseases is only too well known. Such knowledge of the disease would only help them further, in providing care to their patients that will meet the expectations of the treating doctor. If the contents in a topic raises the curiosity level, the avid reader would naturally seek more elaborate references to quench his/her thirst for additional information. Dr. Kalyani Premkumar with her rich experience and qualifications deserves appreciation in her commitment to make this pocket book so interesting.
